8 Ways to Save on Your AC Power Bill
- 1Keep the area around your outside unit free and clear of debris and bushes. These should be at least 36 inches away from your unit.
- 2Keep your AC maintained every year. Having your units maintained regularly will keep energy costs down and make your unit last longer. This can potentially save you thousands of dollars down the road!
- 3Have a programmable thermostat installed. Setting the program to turn on only when you will be home will save you money.
- 4Make sure your windows do not let in too much heat. Windows can play a big part in your AC power bill. Most home builders use cheap windows that let a lot of heat through. Also, if there are cracks or gaps in your windows, getting them sealed helps.
- 5Turn on ceiling fans. This will help circulate the air throughout the house.
- 6Set the temperature higher when you go to sleep at night to help lower your power bill.
- 7Install LED light bulbs. This can also play a big part because light bulbs put off a lot of heat. Changing your light bulbs can dramatically help lower your power bill.
- 8Be proactive when it comes to your unit. This can help tremendously. I find that most homes I visit have had an issue with their AC unit for a while. Motors are not running as efficiently as they could be, making that power bill go up. Get your AC tune-up today!
